Foundational Courses

What makes these courses different

These courses are set apart from the rest due to their importance for you, your society and the Union. They where set apart and made mandatory because with out them societies would not be able to function correctly, develop and understanding of how to manage a committee and protect them from fraud and malpractice

Big Three Training 

The Big Three are the core of your committee with successful communication between the Treasurer, Secretary/VP and President being a cornerstone of a good society. The training done here will provide an overview of each of the roles and the importance they hold within the committee 

President 

Leader of the Committee 
The President is elected to manage and run the Committee. They will be the first point of contact for the Union as well as the face of the society. The direction of the society each year will be up to the President and they will be expected to guide the committee to achieve that end 

Treasurer 

In Charge of Finances 
The Treasurer runs the accounts and finance for societies. Their role is apply and redeem grants, create long term budgets as well as make sure the society is not being defrauded. 

Secretary/VP

Manages Admin 
The Secretary/VP role includes being in charge of room bookings, transport, mailing lists and the website. Their role is vital in making sure spaces are booked for society's to meet and run sessions. As well keeping their members updated in all that is going on in the society and union at large

Health and Safety 

Running a society safely  

Understanding how to complete health and safety forms so that your society can meet  

Hold events 

With out the necessary health and safety knowledge the union will not allow you host events both small or large 

Understand what you a responsible and liable for

Knowing what insurance your is covered under and what is your responsibility will protect you from any backlash or incidents if accidents should happen

Good Practice 

Managing a Committee 

Understand how to work with and manage those in your societies  How to chair a committee and what can and cant be delegated to others within your society 
Delegation. As well as understanding software such as teams and managing your committees agenda through out the year  

Malpractice 

Understand what qualifies as malpractice and what to do if a member of your committee has committed malpractice 

Initiation training 

Understand the correct practices around welcome drinks and what you cannot do   

Impeachment/EGMs

Learn who to contact and what to do if the committee or society feels that a member of the committee has failed to fulfil their role.
